Privacy & Cookies

This notice explains how Start2Study looks after personal information when you use our website, send an enquiry or ask for course-matching and application support.

Last updated: 10 August 2026

Who we are

This website is operated by START2STUDY LTD.

Start2Study provides course-matching and application support for UK and international students. We are not a university and we do not make admissions or visa decisions.

Information we may collect

The information we collect depends on how you use the site. Through our forms and tools, this may include:

  • name and contact details (email and, where provided, telephone number)
  • country of residence and nationality
  • study level, subject or course interests, preferred UK location and intended intake
  • UK or international applicant route and related study preferences
  • application information, including education or qualification details you choose to share in the Full Application
  • funding-related answers you provide in tools such as the Funding & Trust Centre or Study Readiness Check
  • referral or introducer information if you arrive via a referral link or typed referrer
  • preferred contact method and how you heard about us
  • messages submitted through the Contact form
  • Partner Network application details if you apply to introduce students (contact details, location, organisation information, training answers and related notes)
  • consent choices (for example, contact consent and optional marketing consent where offered)
  • for younger applicants, information relating to under-18 status and parent/guardian consent requirements where relevant
  • technical information needed to operate the website securely (such as basic server logs, security checks and form-delivery metadata)

Free tools such as the Study Readiness Check and Funding & Trust Centre can be used without creating an account. We only receive the personal details you choose to submit through enquiry or application forms.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • respond to student enquiries and messages
  • provide course-matching and application support
  • understand study preferences and prepare useful next steps
  • manage student enquiries in our internal records
  • review Partner Network applications and administer approved recruiter records
  • record training, agreement and referral/commission administration details for approved partners (owner-only; not shared through a recruiter login in Phase 1)
  • contact you when you have asked us to, or where you have given relevant consent
  • keep a record of support provided
  • protect the website against misuse and security issues
  • meet legal or regulatory obligations where they apply
  • work with relevant recruitment or education partners only where that is appropriate and permitted to progress an application (see below)

Contact and marketing communications

If you submit an enquiry or application, we may contact you about that request. That kind of communication is part of responding to you.

Optional marketing updates (for example, course news, events or general guidance) are separate. Where we offer an optional marketing checkbox, submitting an enquiry does not automatically sign you up for marketing. You can choose that option separately, and you can withdraw marketing consent later by emailing info@start2study.org.

Sharing with partners and education providers

Start2Study does not automatically send every enquiry to a university or recruitment partner.

Where information needs to be shared to progress an application, that happens as a separate, purposeful step for the relevant application or support purpose. For the Full Application, we ask you to confirm that relevant information may be shared securely with authorised recruitment partners and education providers to support your application.

Admissions decisions remain with the education provider. We do not sell your personal information.

Service providers we use

We use trusted service providers to operate the website and deliver communications. Depending on the service, this currently includes:

  • Netlify, for website hosting, forms infrastructure and related platform services
  • email service providers used to deliver enquiry and acknowledgement communications
  • education or recruitment partners, only where an application is appropriately progressed with relevant consent/purpose

These providers process information on our behalf or as needed to deliver the service. We do not list every technical subcontractor here, and we do not publish API keys or infrastructure secrets.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose it was collected, including responding to enquiries, providing support, maintaining business records and meeting applicable legal requirements.

Owner decision still required: Start2Study has not yet published a fixed retention schedule with exact time periods for each record type. Once a formal retention policy is approved, this section should be updated with those periods.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you may have rights to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • ask us to delete information in certain circumstances
  • ask us to restrict how we use information
  • object to certain uses of information
  • ask for data portability where that right applies
  • withdraw consent where we rely on consent (for example, optional marketing)

To make a request, email info@start2study.org. We may need to confirm your identity before responding.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Learn more or make a complaint on the ICO website.

Under-18 applicants

Some of our forms ask whether an applicant will be under 18 when a course begins. Where that applies, additional parent or guardian permission may be required before an application is ready for institutional submission.

We handle under-18 situations carefully and may pause partner submission until the appropriate authorisation has been obtained through an approved secure channel. This notice does not replace specific consent steps shown in the forms.

Cookies and browser storage

We use a small number of cookies and browser storage features so the website can work properly. We do not currently use advertising cookies, and we do not run a cookie banner for non-essential tracking because those trackers are not enabled by default in the current build.

Essential cookies and sessions

  • owner-admin sign-in cookies used only for the secure owner area (not for public students)
  • Netlify Identity session cookies when an authorised owner account signs in

Referral during your current journey

If you arrive through a referral link, we may temporarily carry that introducer information through your current application journey (for example in the page address or temporary session storage) so we can record who introduced you when you submit an enquiry. This is not advertising tracking, and we do not keep a long-lived referral cookie to restore that introducer on unrelated future visits.

Once you submit an enquiry, the referral details form part of your student record so our team can support you properly.

Temporary browser storage

We may temporarily store information in your browser so that answers can carry between steps and you do not have to enter the same information again. This can include draft Full Application answers, Quick Match to Full Application handoff details, Study Readiness progress, and short-lived referral context for the active journey only.

Analytics

The website code can load Google Analytics only if a measurement ID is configured in the hosting environment. If that setting is not present, analytics cookies are not loaded. Advertising or remarketing cookies are not part of the current public experience.

Owner decision: confirm whether Google Analytics (or any other analytics tool) is enabled in the production Netlify environment. If analytics is turned on later, this notice and any required consent approach should be reviewed before launch of that change.
