Policy Statement

Start2Study is committed to creating and promoting an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for all. We believe that everyone, regardless of background, identity, or circumstance deserves fair and equal access to educational opportunities. Our services are grounded in the belief that diversity is a strength, and inclusion is a responsibility.

We celebrate difference and are committed to challenging discrimination, promoting equality, and ensuring that all individuals feel safe, heard, and supported throughout their university journey.


Purpose of This Policy

This policy sets out how Start2Study will:

  • Promote equality of opportunity in all aspects of our service

  • Create a culture that respects and values diversity

  • Ensure services are accessible, inclusive, and responsive

  • Prevent and respond to discrimination, harassment, and exclusion


Who This Policy Covers

This policy applies to:

  • All students and applicants using Start2Study’s services (UK-based and international)

  • Referrals from external agencies (e.g., Jobcentre Plus, probation, social services)

  • All Start2Study staff, partners, consultants, and volunteers

  • Online, phone, and in-person interactions

We are particularly aware of our responsibility to support individuals who may experience barriers to education due to:

  • Race, ethnicity, or nationality

  • Gender or gender identity

  • Disability, learning difference, or mental health status

  • Age, religion, or belief

  • Sexual orientation

  • Socioeconomic background

  • Criminal record, refugee status, or care history


Our Commitments

Start2Study will:

  • Treat every individual with dignity, respect, and fairness

  • Offer services that reflect the diverse needs of the communities we serve

  • Use inclusive language, images, and communications

  • Ensure that eligibility for support is free from bias or preference

  • Make reasonable adjustments for those with disabilities or support needs

  • Challenge discriminatory language, behaviour, or attitudes

  • Promote a culture of openness, representation, and collaboration


Raising Concerns or Complaints

Any student, partner, or staff member who feels they have been treated unfairly or experienced discrimination is encouraged to report this through our Complaints Procedure. All concerns will be taken seriously, investigated thoroughly, and responded to sensitively.


Training & Awareness

Start2Study ensures that all staff and partners:

  • Understand the principles of equality and inclusion

  • Are trained in recognising and responding to discrimination

  • Know how to uphold inclusive practices in their roles

  • Reflect on their own biases and take responsibility for growth


Monitoring and Review

We regularly assess how inclusive our services are and welcome feedback from students and partners. This policy is reviewed annually or in response to legal or operational changes.
